Sharewear

Terms of use

Last updated 18 October 2026

These terms apply when you use Sharewear, the website at sharewear.co.uk. Please read them before you sign up. By creating an account or using Sharewear, you agree to them.

1. Who we are

Sharewear is run by a sole trader based in England. In these terms, "we", "us" and "Sharewear" mean the person running Sharewear, and "you" means anyone using the site.

You can contact us at hello@sharewear.co.uk.

2. What Sharewear is

Sharewear is an online marketplace where members buy and sell pre-loved children's clothing, school uniform, sports kit and shoes.

We are not the seller. When you buy an item, your contract for that item is with the member selling it, not with us. We provide the website, take payment on the seller's behalf, hold it until the order is complete, and help if something goes wrong. That help is our buyer protection.

3. Your account

  • You must be 18 or over to create an account. Sharewear is for parents and carers, not children.
  • Give accurate details and keep your email address up to date.
  • Keep your password safe. You're responsible for what happens on your account.
  • One account per person. Don't create an account for someone else, or a new account after we've suspended yours.

4. Selling

When you list an item, you confirm that:

  • it's yours to sell, you have it now, and you can hand it over or post it
  • it's genuine, not counterfeit, and it's allowed on Sharewear
  • the photos are your own, of the actual item, and don't show any children
  • the title, size, condition and description are accurate, including any marks or wear

When an item sells, you must hand it over or post it as agreed. Postage orders not marked as posted within 5 days are cancelled and the buyer refunded. When your item sells

Private sellers and traders. Sharewear is for people selling their own family's clothes. If you sell as a business, you must tell us. As a trader you have extra legal duties to buyers, including consumer rights and returns, and you must meet them.

Tax. By law, we may have to collect information about sellers and report it to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC), for example if you make 30 or more sales, or receive more than a set amount, in a year. If that applies to you, we'll ask you for the information we need. Most people selling their own used clothes don't owe tax on them, but it's your responsibility to check.

5. Buying

  • Prices are set by sellers. At checkout you'll see the item price, any postage, and our buyer protection fee, currently 50p per order.
  • You must pay through Sharewear. Paying a seller any other way isn't allowed and isn't covered by buyer protection.
  • Because items are bought from private individuals, the legal rights you'd have when buying from a shop, such as returning something because you've changed your mind, generally don't apply. Items must still be as described, and buyer protection covers you if they aren't.

6. Offers

Buyers can make offers, and sellers can accept, decline or counter them. An accepted offer reserves the item for 24 hours while the buyer pays. Either of you can cancel an accepted offer before it's paid. Making an offer

7. Payments

Payments are processed by Stripe. When you pay, Sharewear collects the money on the seller's behalf and holds it until the order completes. It then pays the seller their item price and any postage. The buyer protection fee is kept by Sharewear.

Sellers receive payouts through a Stripe account. To set one up, sellers must agree to the Stripe Connected Account Agreement, which includes the Stripe Services Agreement. Stripe may ask for identity and bank details, and may refuse or close a Stripe account under its own rules. If a seller's payout details aren't set up, money owed is held until they are.

An order completes when the buyer gives the seller their handover code at collection, or confirms a parcel arrived, or 7 days after it was posted if the buyer doesn't respond, unless a problem has been reported.

8. Cancellations, problems and refunds

  • Before handover or posting, either the buyer or the seller can cancel a paid order. The buyer gets a full refund. If the seller cancels, or doesn't post in time, an automatic review is added to their profile. Cancelling an order
  • If something's wrong, the buyer must report a problem before the order completes. We'll hold the payment and look at the order, the listing and your messages.
  • Our decision. We'll decide fairly, based on the information we have, whether to refund the buyer or pay the seller. We may ask for photos, or for the item to be returned. Our decision doesn't affect any legal rights you have against the other member.
  • Refunds go back to the original payment method and include the buyer protection fee.

9. Messages and reviews

  • Be polite and honest. Don't send abusive, threatening, discriminatory or spam messages.
  • Keep arrangements and payment on Sharewear. Don't use messages to arrange payment outside the site.
  • Reviews must be honest and about the order. We may remove reviews that break these terms.
  • We may read messages when we need to, for example to look into a report or a problem with an order.

10. What you mustn't do

Don't use Sharewear to:

  • break the law, or sell anything illegal, counterfeit, unsafe or not allowed
  • mislead, scam or harass anyone
  • post photos of children, or anyone's personal details
  • copy, scrape or misuse the site or other members' content
  • interfere with how the site works, or try to get around our safety features

11. Suspending accounts and removing content

We may remove listings, reviews or messages, limit what an account can do, or suspend or close an account if we reasonably believe someone has broken these terms, put others at risk, or acted dishonestly. Where it's safe to, we'll explain why. Orders already paid for will still be dealt with fairly.

12. Our responsibility to you

  • We work hard to keep Sharewear running and safe, but we can't promise it will always be available or free from errors.
  • We're not responsible for items sold by members, or for what members do. That includes meeting for collection, so please follow our safety tips.
  • Our total liability to you for any claim about using Sharewear is limited to the fees you've paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or £100, whichever is higher.
  • Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit. Nothing affects your legal rights as a consumer.

13. Your content

You own the photos and descriptions you post. You give us permission to show, store and adapt them, for example by resizing photos, so we can run Sharewear and show your listings. That permission ends when you delete them, except where they're part of an order record we need to keep.

14. Closing your account

You can delete your account at any time in Settings, once any open orders are finished. Deleting your account explains what's kept and what's deleted.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example when we add features or the law changes. We'll show the date of the latest version at the top of this page, and tell you about important changes before they apply. If you keep using Sharewear after that, you accept the new terms.

16. The law that applies

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If there's a dispute, the courts of England and Wales will deal with it, but if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you can also bring a claim in your local courts.

If you have a complaint, please contact us first at hello@sharewear.co.uk, and we'll do our best to put it right.
